For this week's Resort Roadtrip, let's take a stop in the beautiful mountain town of Sandpoint, Idaho! Schweitzer Mountain Resort is the Northwest's hidden gem, making it a great destination for those lucky enough to know about it's existence. Here's what Schweitzer had to say about their resort:
How many runs and chairlifts do you have at the resort?
We have 9 chairs, including a T-Bar and a magic carpet.
What is the typical condition at the resort, and what type of lens should we be prepared to use?
Conditions can vary so having a selection of lenses to use might be best!
What is the most popular run?
Our powder hounds and locals love anything off the backside, including the Lakeside Chutes or Pucci’s Chute. Our intermediate skiers & riders love Great Divide to Vagabond.
If an experienced rider is feeling daring, what run would you recommend?
R-Chutes on the South Bowl. Trees, steeps… it’s awesome.
If skiing or snowboarding conditions are not ideal, what else is there to do at your resort?
We have 32K of Nordic terrain, 2 tubing lanes, snowshoe rentals, as well as restaurants, shops and a spa!
What is your biggest event of the year?
Either our Northern Lights Fireworks show over MLK or our Laser Lights event over Presidents’ Weekend.
What makes your resort unique/what is your claim to fame?
Schweitzer is unpretentious, uncrowded, and undiscovered. Once you ski here, you’re hooked.
When is the best time of year to ski or snowboard at the resort?
January and February are typically our snowiest months but spring skiing in March is pretty awesome too.
How would you describe the culture or environment of the resort?
Very casual & friendly. It’s doesn’t take long to get to know the folks here and that makes everyone feel comfortable pretty quick.
Are you more known for park, powder, or groomers?
All three! We have 3 amazing terrain parks, some of the lightest snow in the Pacific Northwest, and the BEST grooming crew in the area.
What would you say the ratio of snowboarders to skiers is?
Pretty equal. Everybody feels welcome to play at Schweitzer!
