Resort Roadtrip: Buttermilk

For this week's Resort Road Trip we will travel to Buttermilk, one of four resorts under the Aspen Snowmass umbrella & home of the Winter X Games for 15 years! Here are some things that Aspen Snowmass had to say about Buttermilk:

How many runs and chairlifts do you have at the resort?

8 lifts and 44 trails

What is the typical condition at the resort, and what type of lens should we be prepared to use?

Colorado is one of the sunniest states out there so more often than not  you will encounter beautiful bluebird Colorado sunny days but when the light gets flat toward the end of the day a good rose color lens works great

What is the most popular run?

Beginner Park on West Buttermilk – Not ready for the expert X Games pipe and park? Then head to the beginner park on West Buttermilk. Get started on small boxes, rails and jumps in this rarely busy area, great for progression and learning.

If an experienced rider is feeling daring, what run would you recommend?

The Tiehack Express lift accesses a number of black runs with excellent gladed terrain.

What is your biggest event of the year?

X Games Aspen

Date: January 28-31, 2016

Location: Buttermilk Mountain

X Games Aspen will kick off the 2016 winter season in Aspen Snowmass, Colorado, from January 28-31 with live coverage on ESPN and ABC. Celebrating its 15th year in Aspen Snowmass, the premiere winter action sports and youth lifestyle festival will showcase the talents of more than 200 world-class action sports athletes competing for medals and prize money, as well as world-class musical performances and interactive festival elements.

What makes your resort unique/what is your claim to fame?

22 ft. Olympic Size Superpipe – At more than 500 feet long, with walls towering 18 ft. overhead and measuring 22 ft. high from the center of the pipe, the Superpipe at Buttermilk is truly super.

When is the best time of year to ski or snowboard at the resort?

There is action all winter with a peak around X Games. Many great deals are offered to college students over the X Games namely the College X Pass which provides a great rate to ski and ride the resort over the biggest winter action sports event of the year.

How would you describe the culture or environment of the resort?

Buttermilk, home to the X Games Aspen is also known as the beginner’s mountain in Aspen Snowmass. In recent years, however, the addition of the Tiehack Express high-speed chairlift grants easier access to excellent glade runs.

Are you more known for park, powder, or groomers?

Buttermilk is home to the largest park of the resort and one of the top parks in the country and it has served home to X Games Aspen for 15 years.

What would you say the ratio of snowboarders to skiers is?

Both in equal parts.
