Resort Roadtrip: Northstar California Resort

How many runs and chairlifts do you have at the resort

100 runs, 20 lifts

What is the typical condition at the resort, and what type of lens should we be prepared to use.

Classic Tahoe – short heavy dumps followed by long periods of sunny days.

What is the most popular run

Pinball is the renowned park run, while Challenger is over a mile of perfect groomer on the Backside with incredible views of the Sierra Crest.

If an experienced rider is feeling daring, what run would you recommend

Anything in the Lookout Mountain zone. Runs are steep, the trees are unmatched on a powder day, and the views toward Truckee are amazing. If the gate-accessed Sawtooth Ridge is open, head there for a big mountain experience on a powder day.

If skiing or snowboarding conditions are not ideal, what else is there to do at your resort

There’s so much to do off the mountain. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and fat tire mountain biking are all available at mid-mountain. There’s ice skating in The Village and tons of shopping & dining.

What is your biggest event of the year

Our biggest event is actually in the summer, Beerfest & Bluegrass on 4th of July weekend. This year it’s the 2nd. If you haven’t been to Tahoe in the summer, we highly recommend it. Bring your mountain bike too, we have Northern California’s largest lift-served bike park.

What makes your resort unique/what is your claim to fame

We’re all about Relaxed California Luxury. Excellent service and food and amenities you won’t find at any other ski resort. We have a ski in/ski out Ritz-Carlton located on our mountain, we serve complimentary s’mores every day at 3:30, and we pour a champagne tōst every day on East Ridge at 2pm.

When is the best time of year to ski or snowboard at the resort

January and February midweek and non-holiday weekends are prime. The snow pack is full, the storm window is open, and if you avoid the holidays you’ll have the mountain to yourself.

How would you describe the culture or environment of the resort

Relaxed California Luxury says it all. There’s no attitude or one-upping. People are here to relax and have a good time. You’ll make friends on every lift ride.

Are you more known for park, powder, or groomers

Our terrain parks are award-winning, but we’re also known for long perfectly groomed runs. The tree skiing on a powder day is unmatched as well.

What would you say the ratio of snowboarders to skiers is

It’s about 60% skiers, 40% snowboarders.
